Ingredients
Scale
Apple Fries
- 3 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji work well)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or melted coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger (optional)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)
- Pinch of salt
Optional Dipping Sauces
- Caramel sauce
- Peanut butter
- Greek yogurt with honey
Instructions
- Wash and Core Apples: Wash apples thoroughly under cool running water. Use an apple corer or a sharp knife to core each apple, removing seeds and the tough core section.
- Slice into Fries: Slice each apple into 1/4-inch thick planks. Stack the planks and then slice them again into 1/4-inch thick fries to create apple sticks.
- Season the Apple Fries: In a bowl, combine the sliced apple fries with olive oil or melted coconut oil, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground ginger (if using), brown sugar (if using), and a pinch of salt. Gently toss everything together until the apple fries are evenly coated with the seasoning.
- Preheat Air Fryer: If your air fryer requires preheating, set it to 375°F (190°C) and preheat for 3-5 minutes to ensure even cooking.
- Arrange Apple Fries: Place the seasoned apple fries in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. Avoid overcrowding by cooking in batches if necessary to ensure crispiness.
- Air Fry the Fries: Cook the apple fries at 375°F (190°C) for 8-12 minutes. Flip the fries halfway through the cooking time to ensure even crisping on all sides. Adjust the cooking time based on how tender and crispy you prefer the fries.
- Check for Doneness: Test the texture by inserting a fork or toothpick into one of the fries. It should be tender but not mushy. If needed, continue air frying for a few more minutes, checking frequently to avoid burning.
- Cool Slightly: Once cooked, remove the apple fries from the air fryer and place them on a wire rack to cool slightly, which helps keep them crisp.
- Prepare Dipping Sauces: While the fries cool, prepare your choice of optional dipping sauces such as caramel sauce, peanut butter, or Greek yogurt drizzled with honey for added flavor.
- Serve: Serve the apple fries warm and fresh with your preferred dipping sauces for a delightful and healthy snack.
Notes
- Use firmer apple varieties like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji for best texture.
- You can omit brown sugar for a less sweet version.
- Be careful not to overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure fries cook evenly and become crispy.
- Flip fries halfway through cooking for uniform crispiness.
- The optional ground ginger adds a nice warm spice but can be left out if you prefer a simpler flavor.
- Experiment with dipping sauces to find your favorite combination.
- Serve immediately for optimal crispness, as apple fries may soften if left out too long.
