Description

This Armenian Meat Flatbread is a delicious and savory dish featuring spiced ground beef cooked with onions and garlic, spread over flatbreads and baked to golden perfection. Perfect for a hearty meal, this recipe combines aromatic spices like allspice and paprika to create a flavorful Middle Eastern-inspired flatbread that can be enjoyed as a main course or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon allspice

Baking

  • 4 flatbreads
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it reaches the right temperature for baking the flatbreads evenly.
  2. Sauté Aromatics: In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onions and minced garlic, cooking until the onions are translucent and fragrant, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Cook Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet along with salt, black pepper, paprika, and allspice. Cook, breaking up the meat with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 8-10 minutes.
  4. Assemble Flatbreads: Spread the cooked beef mixture evenly over each of the flatbreads, ensuring each flatbread is well covered with the seasoned meat.
  5. Bake: Place the flatbreads on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes or until the edges of the flatbreads turn golden brown and crispy.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the top before serving to add a fresh burst of flavor and color.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground lamb for beef for a more authentic Armenian flavor.
  • For extra crispiness, brush the edges of the flatbread with a little more olive oil before baking.
  • If flatbreads are not available, naan or pita bread can be used as substitutes.
  • Adjust spices according to your taste preference, adding a pinch of cayenne for heat if desired.
  • Serve with a side of yogurt or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
