Ingredients
Scale
For the Bolognese Sauce
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 can crushed tomatoes (approximately 14 oz)
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 0.5 cup red wine
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
For the Pasta
- 1 pound linguine
For Garnish
- Parmesan cheese, grated, for serving
Instructions
- Heat the oil and cook onions: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent and softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute, being careful not to burn.
- Brown the ground beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes.
- Simmer the sauce: Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, and red wine. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer gently uncovered for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, to meld the flavors and thicken.
- Cook the linguine: While the sauce simmers, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the linguine and cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 9-11 minutes.
- Drain and combine: Drain the linguine well and plate it. Spoon the hot Bolognese sauce generously over the pasta.
- Garnish and serve: Sprinkle freshly grated Parmesan cheese on top of the pasta and serve immediately for a delicious, satisfying meal.
Notes
- For a deeper flavor, use a good quality red wine you enjoy drinking.
- Feel free to add a splash of milk or cream at the end of simmering for a richer sauce.
- Leftover Bolognese sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
- Use freshly grated Parmesan for the best taste and texture.
- Adjust salt and pepper according to your taste preference.
