Description

These quick and easy glazed doughnuts are made using canned biscuit dough, allowing you to enjoy delicious, fluffy, homemade doughnuts in just about 20 minutes. The biscuits are fried until golden brown, then dipped in a sweet vanilla glaze for a classic doughnut experience that’s perfect for breakfast or a treat anytime.

Ingredients

Scale

Doughnuts

  • 1 can (16 oz) refrigerated biscuit dough (8 biscuits)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying (about 2-3 inches in the pan)

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (or more for desired consistency)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Heat the Oil: Heat 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or saucepan over medium heat until the oil reaches 350°F (175°C), ensuring the oil is hot enough for frying but not smoking.
  2. Prepare the Doughnuts: Open the can of biscuits and separate them. Use a small round cutter, such as a bottle cap, to punch holes in the center of each biscuit to form doughnuts. Save the cut-out centers to fry as doughnut holes.
  3. Fry the Doughnuts: Carefully place the prepared biscuits into the hot oil in batches. Fry each side for 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to transfer fried doughnuts to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Repeat this process with the doughnut holes, frying each side for 30-60 seconds until golden.
  4. Make the Glaze: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the amount of milk to achieve your preferred glaze consistency.
  5. Glaze the Doughnuts: Dip the warm doughnuts and doughnut holes fully into the glaze, allowing excess glaze to drip off. Place them on a wire rack to set.
  6. Serve: Serve the glazed doughnuts immediately to enjoy their best flavor and perfect texture.

Notes

  • Ensure the oil temperature stays consistent at 350°F for perfectly cooked doughnuts without being greasy.
  • You can flavor the glaze by adding a pinch of cinnamon or swapping vanilla extract with almond extract.
  • Use fresh oil if the first batch tastes oily or darkened to prevent unpleasant flavors.
  • Leftover doughnuts are best eaten the same day to enjoy the optimum texture and glaze freshness.
