Ingredients
Scale
Cauliflower Patties
- 1 head of cauliflower, chopped
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup chickpeas, mashed
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Steam the Cauliflower: Steam the chopped cauliflower until it becomes tender enough to mash easily, which usually takes about 8-10 minutes.
- Mash the Cauliflower: Transfer the steamed cauliflower to a bowl and mash it thoroughly until mostly smooth but with some texture remaining.
- Combine Ingredients: Add the breadcrumbs, mashed chickpeas, chopped onion, minced garlic, nutritional yeast, cumin, salt, and pepper to the mashed cauliflower. Mix everything well to form a consistent mixture.
- Form Patties: Shape the mixture into evenly sized patties, about the size of typical burger patties, so they cook evenly.
- Heat Oil: Warm oil in a skillet over medium heat, enough to coat the bottom for frying the patties.
- Fry Patties: Place the patties in the hot skillet and fry each side for 4-5 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside.
- Serve: Serve the cauliflower patties on burger buns with your favorite toppings such as lettuce, tomato, vegan mayo, or sauces for a complete vegan burger experience.
Notes
- You can substitute chickpeas with other mashed beans if desired for variation.
- Use gluten-free breadcrumbs to make the patties gluten-free.
- Ensure the oil is properly heated before frying to avoid soggy patties.
- These patties can also be baked at 400°F for 20 minutes, flipping halfway for a healthier version.
- Let the patties rest a few minutes after frying to firm up before serving.
