Description

A deliciously cheesy and savory Italian-American stromboli loaded with pepperoni and a blend of mozzarella, provolone, and Parmesan cheeses, baked to golden perfection and served with marinara sauce for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough & Base

  • 1 pound refrigerated pizza dough

Cheeses & Meats

  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded provolone cheese
  • 24 slices pepperoni
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Seasoning & Others

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.
  2. Roll Out Dough: Lightly flour a clean surface and roll the refrigerated pizza dough into a large rectangle approximately 10×14 inches, creating an even layer for toppings.
  3. Add Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and provolone cheeses evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border all around to help seal the roll.
  4. Layer Pepperoni & Seasonings: Arrange 24 slices of pepperoni evenly on top of the cheese. Then sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder over the pepperoni for extra flavor.
  5. Roll Dough: Starting from one of the long sides, carefully roll the dough into a tight log. Tuck in the ends and pinch the seams firmly to seal the stromboli and prevent filling from leaking out during baking.
  6. Prepare for Baking: Place the stromboli seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the top with the egg wash to develop a golden crust, and cut 3 to 4 small slits on top to allow steam to escape while baking.
  7. Bake: Bake the stromboli for 20 to 25 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Finish & Rest: Remove the stromboli from the oven, brush lightly with olive oil to add shine and flavor, and let it rest for 5 minutes to allow the filling to settle.
  9. Serve: Slice the stromboli into pieces and serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • You can substitute cooked sausage or sautéed vegetables for the pepperoni to customize the filling.
  • Avoid overfilling the stromboli, as this can cause it to burst while baking.
  • Using the egg wash helps achieve a crispy, golden crust.
  • Let resting time ensure easier slicing and prevent filling from spilling out.
