Description

Chicken Caprese Garlic Bread is a delicious Italian-American inspired main course that combines the flavors of juicy cooked chicken, melted mozzarella cheese, fresh cherry tomatoes, basil, and a garlicky butter spread on a crisp French bread base. Enhanced with Italian seasoning and balsamic glaze, this easy-to-make recipe is perfect for a flavorful dinner or a hearty snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Bread and Butter Mixture

  • 1 large French bread loaf, halved lengthwise
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Chicken and Cheese Toppings

  • 2 cups cooked chicken breast, shredded or diced
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Vegetables and Seasonings

  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 cup balsamic glaze

Instructions

  1. Prepare Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter with the minced garlic until evenly mixed. This will infuse the butter with flavorful garlic to spread on the bread.
  2. Preheat Oven and Toast Bread: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of the French bread halves. Place the bread on a baking sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes until the bread is lightly toasted and aromatic.
  3. Add Toppings: Remove the toasted bread from the oven and distribute the cooked chicken evenly over both halves. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the chicken, then arrange the halved cherry tomatoes on top.
  4. Season and Bake: Sprinkle salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning evenly over the toppings. Return the bread to the oven and bake for another 10 to 12 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly golden.
  5. Finish and Serve: Once baked, remove the bread from the oven. Sprinkle the chopped fresh basil over the top and drizzle with balsamic glaze. Slice into portions and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use rotisserie chicken as a convenient shortcut to save time.
  • For a richer texture, add slices of fresh mozzarella in addition to shredded cheese.
  • For extra crispiness on the cheese, broil the bread for 1 to 2 minutes at the end of baking but watch carefully to prevent burning.
