Description

This Chicken Cordon Bleu Lasagna combines the classic flavors of chicken, ham, and Swiss cheese with a creamy, seasoned white sauce layered between tender lasagna noodles. Baked to golden perfection and topped with Parmesan cheese, this comforting dish offers a delicious fusion of traditional lasagna and the beloved chicken cordon bleu.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Cheese

  • 1 pound cooked chicken breast, shredded
  • 6 slices cooked ham, chopped
  • 1 cup Swiss cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Lasagna

  • 9 lasagna noodles, cooked according to package instructions

Sauce

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Optional Garnish

  • Fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the lasagna.
  2. Make the Sauce: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 to 2 minutes to form a roux. Gradually whisk in the milk until the mixture is smooth. Stir continuously to prevent lumps and cook until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes. Season the sauce with salt, black pepper, nutmeg, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and onion powder, mixing well.
  3. Layer the Lasagna: Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish lightly. Spread a thin layer of the prepared sauce on the bottom. Place 3 cooked lasagna noodles over the sauce. Layer half of the shredded chicken, half of the chopped ham, and half of the shredded Swiss and mozzarella cheeses on top. Add another layer of sauce over the cheese.
  4. Repeat the Layers: Add another 3 noodles on top of the sauce, then layer the remaining chicken, ham, Swiss and mozzarella cheeses, followed by more sauce.
  5. Final Layer: Top with the last 3 lasagna noodles, spread the remaining sauce evenly over them, and sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese on top.
  6. Bake Covered: Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  7. Bake Uncovered: Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10 minutes or until the cheese on top is golden and bubbling.
  8. Rest and Garnish: Allow the lasagna to cool for 5 to 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired to add color and freshness.

Notes

  • You can substitute Gruyère cheese for Swiss cheese to achieve a richer flavor.
  • Precook the chicken with seasonings like garlic or Italian herbs to add depth to the dish.
  • This lasagna can be assembled a day ahead and baked just before serving to save time.
