Ingredients
Scale
Chicken Shawarma
- 2 lbs boneless chicken thighs
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp shawarma seasoning
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp cumin
- 1/4 tsp turmeric
- Salt and pepper to taste
Creamy Garlic Sauce
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- Pinch of salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Chicken: Rub the chicken thighs with olive oil, shawarma seasoning, paprika, cumin, turmeric, salt, and pepper, ensuring each piece is evenly coated with the spice mixture.
- Roast Chicken: Arrange the seasoned chicken on the baking sheet and roast in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes or until the chicken is fully cooked and slightly crispy around the edges.
- Make Garlic Sauce: While the chicken is roasting, combine the yogurt, mayonnaise, minced garlic, salt, and pepper in a small bowl, mixing thoroughly to create a creamy garlic sauce.
- Rest and Slice: Once the chicken is done roasting, remove it from the oven and allow it to rest for a few minutes before slicing or shredding to retain juices.
- Serve: Serve the sliced chicken with the creamy garlic sauce either drizzled on top or on the side. Enjoy in pita bread, over a salad, or with rice for a complete meal.
Notes
- If you prefer a spicier flavor, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the shawarma seasoning.
- Use Greek yogurt for a thicker, tangier sauce.
- Chicken breasts can be substituted for thighs, but cooking time may need to be adjusted.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- For a healthier twist, opt for low-fat yogurt and reduced-fat mayonnaise.
