Bread:
- 1 large round Italian loaf or boule (about 10 inches)
Olive Salad:
- 1/2 cup (120 g) green olives, pitted and chopped
- 1/2 cup (120 g) black olives, pitted and chopped
- 1/4 cup (60 g) roasted red peppers, chopped
- 2 tablespoons capers, rinsed
- 1/4 cup (60 ml) olive oil
- 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Fillings:
- 4 ounces (115 g) sliced provolone cheese
- 4 ounces (115 g) sliced mozzarella cheese
- 4 ounces (115 g) sliced mortadella
- 4 ounces (115 g) sliced salami
- 4 ounces (115 g) sliced ham
- 4 ounces (115 g) sliced capicola
Instructions
- Cut the bread: Slice the loaf horizontally and hollow out some of the soft interior.
- Make olive salad: Combine olives, peppers, capers, oil, vinegar, oregano, and pepper. Spread half on bread.
- Layer fillings: Add cheeses, meats, and remaining salad. Top with bread.
- Chill and serve: Wrap, refrigerate for 1 hour, then slice and enjoy!
Notes
- This sandwich tastes better when made in advance as the flavors meld over time.
- For extra kick, consider adding pickled jalapeños or banana peppers to the olive salad.
