Description

Deliciously chewy and sweet coconut macaroons made with shredded sweetened coconut, condensed milk, and egg whites. These easy-to-make treats are baked to golden perfection and can optionally be dipped in melted semisweet chocolate for an extra indulgent touch.

Ingredients

Scale

Macaroon Mixture

  • 2 1/2 cups shredded sweetened coconut
  • 2/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 large egg whites
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Optional Topping

  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C) and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the shredded sweetened coconut, sweetened condensed milk, egg whites, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Stir thoroughly until the mixture is well combined and sticky.
  3. Shape the Macaroons: Using about 1 tablespoon of the mixture, scoop and form into mounds or balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart to allow for slight spreading while baking.
  4. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the edges of the macaroons turn golden and the texture feels firm to the touch.
  5. Cool: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the macaroons cool briefly on the sheet before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely for best texture.
  6. Optional Chocolate Dipping: If desired, melt the semisweet chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl or double boiler. Dip the bottoms of the cooled macaroons into the melted chocolate and place them back on parchment paper to let the chocolate set before serving.

Notes

  • For best results, use sweetened shredded coconut as it helps bind the macaroons and adds sweetness.
  • Make sure the egg whites are fresh for optimal binding and structure.
  • Chocolate dipping is optional but enhances flavor and presentation.
  • Store macaroons in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days, or refrigerate for longer freshness.
  • Do not overbake; the macaroons should be just golden and still chewy inside.
