Ingredients
Scale
Beef Marinade and Coating
- 300 grams (10.5 oz) thinly sliced beef (flank steak or sirloin)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1-2 tablespoons cornstarch or all-purpose flour for dusting
Rice
- 1 cup jasmine rice
- 1 1/4 cups water (for cooking rice)
- Pinch of salt
For Cooking and Garnish
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 2 green onions, chopped
Instructions
- Marinate the beef: In a medium bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef with soy sauce, minced garlic, grated fresh ginger, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let it marinate for about 30 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse into the meat.
- Cook the jasmine rice: Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch. In a saucepan, combine the rinsed rice with 1 1/4 cups of water and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 15 minutes or until the water is absorbed and the rice is tender. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
- Prepare the beef for frying: Lightly dust the marinated beef slices with cornstarch or flour on all sides. This coating will help achieve a crispy texture when fried.
- Fry the beef: Heat sesame oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the coated beef slices in a single layer. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side or until the beef is browned, crispy on the outside, and cooked through. Avoid overcrowding the pan by frying in batches if necessary.
- Assemble the bowl: Fluff the cooked jasmine rice and divide it into serving bowls. Top each bowl with the crispy beef slices. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and chopped green onions for added flavor and texture. Serve immediately.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, double coat the beef slices by dipping them again in the coating before frying.
- If you prefer, substitute soy sauce with tamari for a gluten-free option.
- You can toast the sesame seeds beforehand in a dry pan to enhance their flavor.
- Make sure not to overcrowd the pan when frying the beef to keep it crispy.
- Leftover rice and beef can be stored separately in airtight containers for up to 2 days and reheated before serving.
