Description

Crispy Chilli Chicken is a quick and family-friendly dish featuring boneless, skinless chicken breasts coated in a flavorful blend of spices and cornflour, then fried to a golden crisp and tossed in a sweet chilli sauce. Perfectly balanced with a crispy texture and a sweet-spicy kick, this recipe is ideal for a satisfying weeknight dinner, served with steamed rice or vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken & Coating

  • 2 pieces Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts
  • 1 unit Egg (Can substitute with flaxseed meal for vegan option)
  • 1/2 cup Cornflour (Cornstarch) (Substitute with potato starch if needed)
  • 1 teaspoon Sweet Paprika (Opt for smoked paprika for extra depth)
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder (Fresh minced garlic can elevate flavor)
  • Salt & Pepper to taste

Cooking & Sauce

  • 1 cup High Smoke-Point Oil (Vegetable or Canola) (Avoid olive oil for frying)
  • 1/2 cup Sweet Chilli Sauce (Can use homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Seeds (Optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken Coating: In a large bowl, combine the boneless, skinless chicken breasts with sweet paprika, garlic powder, salt, pepper, egg, and cornflour. Stir well until each piece of chicken is fully coated with the mixture, ensuring an even layer to achieve crispiness when fried.
  2. Heat the Oil: Pour the high smoke-point oil into a large pan and heat it over medium-high heat until it shimmers, indicating that it is hot enough for frying.
  3. Fry the Chicken: Carefully add the coated chicken pieces to the hot oil. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, turning halfway through to promote even browning. Fry until the chicken is crispy and golden brown on the outside and cooked through inside.
  4. Warm the Sweet Chilli Sauce: While the chicken is cooking, gently warm the sweet chilli sauce in a separate small pot over low heat, preparing it for coating the chicken later.
  5. Coat the Chicken: Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the pan and place it in a bowl. Immediately toss the crispy chicken in the warm sweet chilli sauce until fully coated, ensuring every piece is covered with the flavorful sauce.
  6. Serve: Serve the crispy chilli chicken hot, garnished with sesame seeds if desired. Pair this dish with steamed rice or vegetables for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Use a high smoke-point oil such as vegetable or canola oil to prevent burning during frying.
  • For a vegan option, substitute the egg with flaxseed meal mixed with water.
  • Fresh minced garlic can be used instead of garlic powder for enhanced flavor.
  • Adjust the amount of sweet chilli sauce to taste depending on your preferred level of sweetness and heat.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor as the chicken can lose crispiness if left standing.
