Description

This Decadent Crockpot Chocolate Lava Cake is a luscious, melt-in-your-mouth dessert perfect for chocolate lovers. Made effortlessly in a slow cooker, this rich cake features a moist chocolate base topped with a gooey chocolate pudding layer and melty chocolate chips. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a truly indulgent treat that melts hearts.

Ingredients

Scale

Cake Batter

  • 1 box Chocolate Cake Mix
  • 1 cup Whole Milk (or almond milk for dairy-free)
  • 1/2 cup Canola Oil (or vegetable oil)
  • 2 large Eggs (or flax eggs for vegan option)

Pudding Layer

  • 1 box Chocolate Instant Pudding Mix (sugar-free optional)
  • 1 cup Additional Milk (whole or almond milk)
  • 1 cup Chocolate Chips (dark chocolate recommended)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Crockpot: Spray the inside of your crockpot with non-stick cooking spray to ensure the cake doesn’t stick during cooking.
  2. Mix the Cake Batter: In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, whole milk, canola oil, and eggs. Stir thoroughly until the batter is smooth and well blended.
  3. Pour Batter into Crockpot: Evenly spread the prepared cake batter across the bottom of the greased crockpot to form an even layer.
  4. Prepare the Pudding: In a separate bowl, whisk together the chocolate instant pudding mix and the additional cup of milk until the mixture becomes smooth and consistent.
  5. Add Pudding and Chocolate Chips: Pour the pudding mixture evenly over the top of the cake batter in the crockpot. Then sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the pudding layer.
  6. Cook: Cover the crockpot with its lid and set it to high. Allow the cake to cook for approximately 2 and a half hours, until the cake is set and a gooey lava layer forms underneath.
  7. Serve: After cooking, let the cake cool for a few minutes. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra decadent experience.

Notes

  • For a dairy-free version, substitute whole milk with almond milk and use flax eggs instead of chicken eggs.
  • Using sugar-free pudding mix can reduce sugar content while maintaining flavor.
  • Ensure you spray the crockpot thoroughly to prevent sticking and ease removal.
  • Cooking time may vary slightly depending on the crockpot model; check doneness at 2 hours if unsure.
  • Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for complementary flavors.
