- 3–4 medium potatoes, diced
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Liquids
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- ½ cup water
Spices & Herbs
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1 tsp dried parsley
- 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp onion powder
- Additional seasoning: garlic powder, chili powder (amount unspecified, estimated ¼ tsp each)
Instructions
- Cook the Ground Turkey: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground turkey and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. Season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, chili powder, and oregano as it cooks. Once browned and well-seasoned, remove the turkey from the skillet and set it aside.
- Cook the Potatoes: In the same skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced potatoes and cook for 5 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until the potatoes are browned and starting to soften.
- Combine Ingredients: Return the cooked ground turkey to the skillet with the potatoes. Add tomato sauce, water, minced garlic, dried oregano, basil, parsley, salt, black pepper, and onion powder. Stir everything together to combine thoroughly.
- Simmer: Cover the skillet and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the flavors have melded together.
- Adjust and Serve: Taste the dish and adjust seasoning as needed. Serve warm on its own or over rice or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
Notes
- You can adjust the spices and herbs to suit your personal taste preferences.
- If you prefer softer potatoes, increase the simmering time slightly.
- This dish pairs well with steamed greens or a fresh salad for added nutrition.
- Ground turkey is a lean protein, making this dish a lighter alternative to ground beef recipes.
- For a spicier variation, add red pepper flakes or hot sauce.
