Ingredients
Scale
For the Patties
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1/3 cup bread crumbs
- 2 teaspoons ketchup
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
For the Gravy
- 2 packets Brown Gravy Mix (approximately 1 oz each)
- 2 cups hot water
- 1 teaspoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon avocado oil (for cooking)
Instructions
- Prepare Patties: Add all patty ingredients including ground beef, bread crumbs, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder into a large mixing bowl. Use clean hands to mix thoroughly until evenly combined. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a flat patty.
- Cook Patties: Heat 1 tablespoon of avocado oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place the patties carefully into the hot skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, until browned on both sides and cooked through. Adjust the heat as needed to avoid burning. Once cooked, transfer the patties to a plate and set aside.
- Make Gravy: In a separate bowl, whisk together the brown gravy mix, hot water, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce until completely blended and smooth.
- Combine and Simmer: Pour the prepared gravy into the skillet that was used for the patties, making sure to include any leftover juices in the pan. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over low heat. Return the cooked patties to the skillet and spoon the gravy over them. Stir gently to coat. Let the patties simmer in the gravy for 3-5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly. If the gravy becomes too thick, stir in an extra 1/4 cup of hot water to reach desired consistency.
- Serve: Serve the Salisbury steaks hot, generously spooning the savory brown gravy over each patty. Ideal accompaniments include creamy mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
Notes
- Use lean ground beef to reduce excess fat and keep the patties tender.
- Adjust the seasoning by adding more mustard or Worcestershire sauce to the patties if desired.
- For thicker gravy, simmer a little longer; for thinner gravy, add a bit more hot water.
- Leftover Salisbury steak and gravy can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently on the stovetop.
- Serve with mashed potatoes to soak up the flavorful gravy perfectly.
