Ingredients
Scale
Steak Bites
- 1 lb sirloin or ribeye steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Cheesy Smashed Potatoes
- 1 1/2 lbs baby potatoes
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Boil the Potatoes: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the baby potatoes and cook for 15–20 minutes or until they are fork-tender. Drain them and let cool slightly to handle.
- Preheat and Prepare Potatoes: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Place the boiled potatoes on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Using the bottom of a glass or a fork, gently smash each potato slightly to flatten it. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and black pepper.
- Bake Potatoes: Bake the smashed potatoes for 20–25 minutes or until they turn crispy and golden brown. In the last 5 minutes of baking, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the potatoes and return to the oven until melted and bubbly.
- Cook the Steak Bites: While the potatoes bake, heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season the steak cubes with salt and black pepper. Sear the steak bites in batches for 2–3 minutes per side, until nicely browned and cooked to your desired doneness.
- Make Garlic Butter: Reduce the skillet heat to low and add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter along with the minced garlic. Stir well until the garlic is fragrant and the steak bites are thoroughly coated in the garlic butter sauce.
- Serve: Plate the garlic butter steak bites alongside the cheesy smashed potatoes. Optionally, garnish with fresh herbs and serve immediately for best flavor.
Notes
- For best flavor and even cooking, let the steak come to room temperature before searing.
- You can substitute the cheddar cheese with mozzarella or pepper jack for a different cheese flavor.
- This dish pairs wonderfully with a simple green salad or steamed vegetables for a balanced meal.
