Ingredients
Scale
Shrimp Mixture
- 1 pound big shrimp, deveined and peeled
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Cream Sauce
- 4 minced garlic cloves
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
- 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
Mashed Potatoes
- 2 pounds peeled, cubed potatoes
- About 1/4 cup butter
- About 1/2 cup warm milk
- Pinch of salt, or more to taste
Garnish
- Fresh thyme leaves for sprinkling
Instructions
- Prepare the Mashed Potatoes: Chop your potatoes into chunks and boil them until a fork slides in easily, which takes about 15 minutes. Drain off the water, then mash the potatoes along with butter and warmed milk until smooth and creamy. Add a pinch of salt to taste and cover to keep them hot.
- Cook the Shrimp: In a bowl, mix the shrimp with olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and toss the shrimp in for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until they are just turning pink. Remove the shrimp and set them aside.
- Make the Cream Sauce: In the same skillet used for the shrimp, add butter and cook the minced garlic for about one minute until fragrant. Pour in the heavy cream and stir gently, then add Parmesan cheese and Dijon mustard if using. Season with salt and pepper, and allow the sauce to simmer gently for 3 to 5 minutes until it thickens.
- Assemble the Dish: Spoon the creamy mashed potatoes onto plates, place the cooked shrimp on top, and drizzle the Parmesan cream sauce over everything. Finish by sprinkling fresh thyme leaves on top for a burst of herbal freshness.
Notes
- For a richer taste, use full-fat heavy cream and unsalted butter.
- Dijon mustard adds a subtle tang but can be omitted if preferred.
- Adjust seasoning to taste, especially salt and pepper in both potatoes and sauce.
- Use fresh shrimp for best flavor; frozen can be used but thaw fully and pat dry before cooking.
- This dish can be paired with a crisp green salad or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
