Ingredients
Scale
Gnocchi
- 500 grams fresh gnocchi
Tomato Sauce
- 500 grams ripe tomatoes, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 1/2 cup fresh basil, chopped (plus extra for garnish)
Cheese Topping
- 250 grams mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 50 grams Parmesan cheese, grated
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 200°C (400°F) and allow it to fully preheat to ensure even baking.
- Cook the gnocchi: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the fresh gnocchi and cook according to package instructions, about 2-3 minutes, until they float to the surface. Drain and set aside.
- Prepare the tomato mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped ripe tomatoes, minced garlic, olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly to blend the flavors.
- Combine gnocchi and tomato sauce: Gently fold the cooked gnocchi into the tomato mixture. Add half of the chopped fresh basil and mix gently to combine.
- Assemble the bake: Transfer the gnocchi and tomato mixture into a baking dish. Evenly sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese over the top.
- Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted, bubbly, and golden brown.
- Garnish and serve: Remove from oven, sprinkle with the remaining fresh basil for aroma and color, and serve immediately while hot and gooey.
Notes
- Use fresh gnocchi for best texture and flavor.
- If fresh tomatoes are out of season, canned chopped tomatoes can be substituted.
- Adjust seasoning to taste before baking.
- For a slightly crispier top, you can broil the dish for 2-3 minutes at the end but watch carefully to avoid burning.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in an oven or microwave, though texture is best fresh.
