Ingredients
Scale
Apples and Caramel:
- 5 medium apples
- 1 package caramel wrappers (5 wrappers per package)
Chocolate Coating:
- 1 package chocolate Wilton candy melts
- 1 package white chocolate Wilton candy melts
Toppings (optional):
- Assorted candies (M&Ms, crushed cookies, nuts, etc.)
Instructions
- Prepare workspace: Line a baking tray or counter with wax paper or parchment to create a non-stick surface for your apples to dry on.
- Set up toppings: Pour assorted candies like M&Ms, nuts, and any other desired toppings into small bowls or ramekins and set aside for easy dipping later.
- Insert sticks: Place a craft stick firmly into the core of each apple to create a handle for dipping and decorating.
- Wrap apples with caramel: Unwrap each caramel piece and wrap it evenly around each apple, ensuring full coverage.
- Melt dark chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, heat half of the dark chocolate Wilton candy melts in 1-minute increments, stirring after each, until fully melted and smooth.
- Dip apples in chocolate: Roll each caramel-covered apple in the melted dark chocolate until well coated. Place coated apples onto the prepared parchment paper to set and dry.
- Melt white chocolate: Place half of the white chocolate Wilton candy melts into a zip-top plastic bag. Heat in 1-minute intervals in the microwave, smushing the bag between heating to distribute heat until completely melted.
- Pipe white chocolate drizzle: Snip a very small tip off one corner of the plastic bag to create a piping bag. Drizzle the melted white chocolate over each apple in your desired pattern.
- Add toppings: Immediately after drizzling, sprinkle chosen toppings such as crushed cookies, nuts, or candy pieces onto the apples so they adhere to the white chocolate.
- Dry and store: Allow the chocolate on the apples to fully harden and dry before storing them to maintain their shape and texture.
Notes
- Use a mix of your favorite toppings for color and texture variety.
- If you don’t have craft sticks, use sturdy wooden skewers or popsicle sticks.
- For a smoother chocolate coating, avoid overheating the candy melts as they can seize.
- Store finished apples in a cool, dry place to prevent melting or stickiness.
- This recipe can be doubled or halved easily depending on serving needs.
