Ingredients
Brownie Batter
- Unsweetened cocoa powder – 1/2 cup (50 g)
- All-purpose flour – 1/2 cup (65 g)
- Granulated sugar – 1 cup (200 g)
- Butter – 1/2 cup (113 g), melted
- Eggs – 2 large
- Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon (5 ml)
- Salt – 1/4 teaspoon (1 g)
Cream Cheese Swirl
- Cream cheese – 8 oz (225 g), softened
- Granulated sugar – 1/4 cup (50 g)
- Egg – 1 large
- Food coloring (orange) – as needed
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare an 8×8 inch (20×20 cm) baking pan by greasing it or lining it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Make Brownie Batter: In a medium bowl, combine melted butter and granulated sugar until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition to ensure incorporation. Stir in vanilla extract and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together cocoa powder and flour, then gently fold into the wet mixture until just combined.
- Prepare Cream Cheese Mixture: In another bowl, beat softened cream cheese until smooth. Add 1/4 cup granulated sugar and one egg, mixing until well combined. Add orange food coloring a few drops at a time until you achieve your desired vibrant shade.
- Layer and Swirl: Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared pan, spreading evenly. Dollop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture over the brownie batter. Using a knife or skewer, swirl the cream cheese into the batter to create a marbled effect. Pour the remaining brownie batter on top and repeat the swirling process for a beautiful pattern.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs but not wet batter to ensure fudgy brownies.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, cut into 16 squares and serve.
Notes
- Ensure cream cheese is softened to room temperature for easy mixing and smooth texture.
- Do not overmix brownie batter once flour is added to keep brownies tender and fudgy.
- Use gel food coloring for more vibrant color without thinning the cream cheese mixture.
- Brownies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerated for up to a week.
- For extra festive touch, decorate with Halloween-themed sprinkles or edible glitter after baking.
