Description

Enjoy a taste of the islands with this delicious Hawaiian Style Teriyaki Chicken recipe. Juicy chicken thighs marinated in a sweet and savory sauce, grilled to perfection, and served with a flavorful glaze. It’s a must-try for any fan of Hawaiian cuisine!

Ingredients

Scale

Marinade:

  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated

For Glaze:

  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • 1 tablespoon water (if using cornstarch)
  • Sliced green onions and sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Chicken: In a large bowl, whisk together soy sauce, water, brown sugar, garlic, and ginger until the sugar is dissolved. Add the chicken thighs and marinate for at least 1 hour or overnight for best flavor.
  2. Grill the Chicken: Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Remove chicken from the marinade and grill for 5–7 minutes per side until cooked through and slightly charred.
  3. Make the Glaze: While the chicken is grilling, pour the leftover marinade into a small saucepan and bring to a boil. For a thicker sauce, mix cornstarch with water and whisk into the boiling marinade. Simmer until slightly thickened.
  4. Finish and Serve: Brush the cooked chicken with the sauce or serve it on the side. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve with rice or macaroni salad.

Notes

  • Chicken thighs are preferred for their juiciness, but chicken breasts can be used if pounded thin.
  • Always boil the leftover marinade if you plan to use it as a sauce.
