Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
Wet Ingredients
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ½ cup hot fudge sauce, plus extra for drizzling
Optional Ingredients
- ½ cup chocolate chips or chopped nuts
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and set it aside to prepare for baking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined. Set this mixture aside.
- Cream Butter & Sugar: In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until the mixture becomes light and fluffy, which should take about 3 to 4 minutes.
- Add Eggs & Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time to the butter and sugar mixture, followed by the vanilla extract, ensuring everything is fully incorporated.
- Combine Wet & Dry Ingredients: Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix gently until just combined to keep the batter light.
- Fold in Fudge: Carefully fold in the hot fudge sauce along with the chocolate chips or nuts if you choose to use them. Avoid overmixing to maintain a tender texture.
- Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 50 to 60 minutes. Test doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.
- Cool & Serve: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely. Before serving, drizzle additional hot fudge sauce over the top for extra indulgence.
Notes
- Ensure butter is softened for easier creaming and better texture.
- Do not overmix the batter after adding dry ingredients to prevent dense bread.
- If you don’t have buttermilk, you can substitute with regular milk plus 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar, let it sit for 5 minutes before use.
- Chocolate chips or nuts are optional but add nice texture and flavor.
- Use a toothpick test to avoid overbaking and ensure moist bread.
