Ingredients
Scale
Toast Base
- 2 slices sourdough bread
- 1 small garlic clove (optional, for rubbing on the toast)
Avocado Spread
- 1 ripe avocado
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Lemon juice (optional, for extra flavor)
Halloumi Topping
- 4 oz halloumi cheese, sliced into 1/4-inch thick pieces
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for frying halloumi)
Drizzle and Garnish
- 1 tablespoon hot honey (or regular honey with chili flakes)
- 1 teaspoon red chili flakes (optional, for extra heat)
- Fresh herbs (such as parsley or basil), for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Toast: Toast the two slices of sourdough bread to your preferred level of crispiness. If using, rub the toasted bread gently with a small garlic clove to impart a subtle garlic flavor.
- Make the Avocado Spread: Cut the ripe avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a bowl. Mash the avocado with a fork until smooth but still slightly chunky. Season with salt, pepper, and a squeeze of lemon juice if desired, mixing well to combine.
- Fry the Halloumi: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the halloumi slices and fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy on the edges. Remove from heat.
- Assemble the Toasts: Spread a generous layer of the mashed avocado evenly over each slice of toasted sourdough. Top each with the golden fried halloumi slices carefully.
- Add Hot Honey and Garnish: Drizzle 1 tablespoon of hot honey over the halloumi and avocado on each toast. For extra heat, sprinkle red chili flakes to your taste. Garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or basil if desired.
- Serve: Serve the Hot Honey Avocado & Halloumi Toast immediately while the halloumi is warm and the toast is crisp. Enjoy as a flavorful breakfast, brunch, or light meal.
Notes
- You can substitute hot honey with regular honey mixed with chili flakes for a similar heat and sweetness.
- To make it vegan, replace halloumi with grilled tofu or a plant-based cheese alternative.
- Add a squeeze of lemon juice to the avocado to prevent browning and enhance flavor.
- Adjust the amount of chili flakes to control the spice level according to your preference.
- This recipe is best enjoyed fresh as the toast can get soggy if left for long.
