Description

Deliciously creamy and flavorful Hot Onion Dip featuring sweet onions, cream cheese, and a blend of Swiss and Parmesan cheeses, baked to golden perfection and perfect for parties or casual snacking.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups sweet onions, finely chopped
  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Garnish

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the dip.
  2. Mix Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the finely chopped sweet onions, softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, shredded Swiss cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and optional cayenne pepper. Stir well until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  3. Prepare Baking Dish: Grease a baking dish to prevent sticking, then transfer the creamy onion mixture into it, spreading it evenly across the surface.
  4. Bake: Place the baking dish uncovered in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the dip is bubbling hot.
  5. Cool and Garnish: Remove the dip from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes to set slightly. Sprinkle chopped fresh chives over the top as a fresh garnish.
  6. Serve: Serve the hot onion dip warm with your choice of crackers, sliced baguette, or fresh vegetables for dipping.

Notes

  • For a deeper flavor, caramelize the onions before mixing with the other ingredients.
  • Gruyère cheese can be used instead of Swiss cheese for a nuttier taste.
  • This dip can be prepared a day in advance and baked right before serving to save time.
