Description

Lasagna Flatbread is a delicious and quick twist on traditional lasagna, combining all the classic flavors with the convenience of flatbreads. This recipe layers a creamy ricotta and cheese mixture with savory sausage marinara sauce, baked to bubbly perfection. Ready in just 40 minutes, it’s a perfect easy meal for weeknights or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Cheese Mixture

  • 1 (15-ounce) container ricotta cheese
  • 4 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese (half of an 8-ounce package)
  • 1 (3-ounce) package Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning

Sausage Marinara

  • 1 pound sausage
  • ½ (26-ounce) jar marinara sauce

Other

  • 6 flatbreads
  • 4 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese (remaining half of the 8-ounce package)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the flatbreads.
  2. Prepare Cheese Mixture: In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, half of the shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, egg, and Italian seasoning. Mix until smooth and well blended to form a creamy base.
  3. Cook Sausage: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage and cook until no longer pink, about 5 to 10 minutes, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain any excess grease, then stir in the marinara sauce to create a savory sausage mixture.
  4. Assemble Flatbreads: Lay out the flatbreads on a baking tray. Spread an even layer of the cheese mixture over each flatbread. Top with the sausage and marinara mixture. Finally, sprinkle the remaining shredded mozzarella evenly over the top of each flatbread.
  5. Bake: Place the assembled flatbreads in the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese has melted fully and is bubbly and golden at the edges.
  6. Serve: Remove from the oven and serve hot. Enjoy your delicious lasagna flatbreads fresh out of the oven!

Notes

  • For a spicier version, use spicy Italian sausage or add red pepper flakes to the sausage marinara mixture.
  • To save time, pre-cooked sausage can be used.
  • Flatbreads can be substituted with naan or pita bread if preferred.
  • Leftover flatbreads can be stored in the refrigerator and reheated in the oven for best texture.
  • Use low-fat cheeses to reduce fat content if desired.
