Scale
Green Bean Mixture
- 1 cup green beans, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 cup cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup fried onions (half of 1 cup)
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (half of 1 cup)
Topping and Pastry
- 1 package of puff pastry, thawed
- 1/2 cup fried onions (remaining half of 1 cup)
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (remaining half of 1 cup)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the casserole bites.
- Mix Filling: In a large bowl, combine the green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to create a smooth mixture.
- Add Cheese and Onions: Fold in half of the fried onions and half of the shredded cheddar cheese into the green bean mixture to enhance the flavor and texture.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a clean surface and cut into small squares, sized appropriately for bite-sized portions.
- Fill Pastry Squares: Place a spoonful of the prepared green bean mixture in the center of each puff pastry square.
- Seal Bites: Fold the corners of each square over the filling and pinch them securely to seal the edges and prevent filling leakage.
- Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the filled and sealed bites on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Add Toppings: Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheddar cheese and fried onions on top of each bite for a crispy, cheesy finish.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and puffed up.
- Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and allow the bites to cool slightly before serving to avoid burns and enhance flavor enjoyment.
Notes
- You can substitute cream of mushroom soup with a homemade roux and mushroom broth for a fresher taste.
- If puff pastry is unavailable, phyllo dough or biscuit dough can be used as alternatives.
- These bites can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving for convenience.
- For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or smoked paprika to the filling mixture.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven for best texture.
