Description

A classic San Giorgio Lasagna recipe featuring layers of tender lasagna noodles, rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta mixture, and a blend of mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses baked to bubbly perfection. Perfect for family dinners and special occasions.

Ingredients

Scale

Lasagna Noodles

  • 12 San Giorgio lasagna noodles

Meat Sauce

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 26 oz pasta sauce (preferably marinara)

Cheese Mixture

  • 32 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 tbsp chopped parsley
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Topping Cheese

  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the lasagna.
  2. Cook the Noodles: Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and rinse under cold water to prevent sticking, then set aside.
  3. Prepare Meat Sauce: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with chopped onion and minced garlic until browned, approximately 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary. Stir in the pasta sauce and mix until well combined.
  4. Prepare Ricotta Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, beaten eggs, parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until smooth and well incorporated.
  5. Assemble the Lasagna: In a 9×13-inch baking dish, spread one third of the meat sauce evenly on the bottom. Layer with about 4 lasagna noodles, then spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles and sprinkle with 1 cup of mozzarella cheese.
  6. Second Layer: Add another third of the meat sauce, a second layer of noodles, the remaining ricotta mixture, and another cup of mozzarella cheese.
  7. Final Layer: Place the remaining noodles, top with the remaining meat sauce, and sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  8. Bake: Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the lasagna is hot and bubbly.
  9. Rest and Serve: Remove the lasagna from the oven and let it sit for about 15 minutes before slicing to allow it to set. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Make sure to rinse noodles with cold water after boiling to prevent sticking.
  • Be careful not to overcook the noodles or they may become mushy after baking.
  • Drain excess fat from cooked beef to avoid a greasy sauce.
  • Letting the lasagna rest after baking helps the layers set and makes slicing easier.
  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of Italian seasoning or red pepper flakes to the meat sauce if desired.
