Description

This Sausage and Swiss Chard Pasta is a hearty and flavorful dish combining savory Italian sausage with nutrient-packed Swiss chard and a hint of red pepper flakes for a subtle kick. Tossed with tender pasta and finished with Parmesan cheese, it makes a satisfying and balanced meal ready in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces pasta
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 4 cups Swiss chard, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta: Prepare the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Brown the sausage: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the Italian sausage and cook until it’s browned and cooked through, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  3. Sauté garlic and spices: Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes to the skillet with the sausage. Cook for about one minute until fragrant, stirring frequently to avoid burning.
  4. Wilt the Swiss chard: Stir in the chopped Swiss chard and pour in the chicken broth. Simmer until the chard has wilted down and absorbed some of the broth, about 3-5 minutes.
  5. Toss pasta with the sausage mixture: Add the cooked pasta into the skillet with the sausage and chard mixture. Toss well to combine and evenly coat the pasta.
  6. Finish with Parmesan: Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the pasta and toss again until fully incorporated and creamy.
  7. Serve: Serve the pasta immediately while warm and enjoy.

Notes

  • You can substitute Italian sausage with turkey sausage for a leaner option.
  • If Swiss chard is unavailable, kale or spinach can be used as alternatives.
  • Adjust the red pepper flakes amount based on your desired spice level.
  • Use gluten-free pasta to make this dish gluten-free.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
