Description

These Southern-Style Honey Butter Cornbread Poppers are mini, golden-brown cornbread bites glazed with a sweet honey butter mixture. Perfect as a warm, buttery snack or side, they combine the classic flavor of cornbread with a luscious honey glaze and a hint of cinnamon for a delightful treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Cornbread Batter

  • 1 box cornbread mix (plus ingredients as per package instructions, usually eggs, milk, and oil or water)

Honey Butter Glaze

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Batter: Follow the instructions on your cornbread mix package to prepare the batter, typically involving mixing the cornbread mix with eggs, milk, and possibly oil or water until smooth.
  2. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C), or according to the package directions. Grease a mini muffin tin thoroughly to prevent sticking.
  3. Fill the Muffin Tin: Spoon the prepared batter into the mini muffin cups, filling each about two-thirds full to allow room for rising.
  4. Bake the Poppers: Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cornbread poppers are golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  5. Make the Honey Butter Glaze: While the poppers bake, combine the melted unsalted butter, honey, cinnamon (if using), and salt in a bowl. Stir until well mixed.
  6. Glaze the Poppers: As soon as the poppers come out of the oven, brush each generously with the honey butter glaze to coat them while warm.
  7. Serve: Let the poppers cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • You can omit cinnamon if you prefer a simpler honey butter flavor.
  • If you like, add a pinch of cayenne or chili powder to the glaze for a sweet and spicy kick.
  • Ensure your mini muffin tin is well greased or use mini paper liners for easy removal.
  • These poppers can be made ahead and reheated gently in the oven to refresh.
  • Use high-quality honey for best flavor impact.
