Wrapped in delicate dumpling wrappers, these rolls can be steamed for a tender bite or baked for a crispy finish, perfect for a satisfying appetizer or main dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 1 lb Ground Beef (Can substitute with ground turkey or lentils)
  • 3 tbsp Soy Sauce (Use low-sodium for a healthier version)
  • 2 tbsp Hoisin Sauce (Substitute with teriyaki sauce if desired)
  • 1 tbsp Sesame Oil (Can be replaced with olive oil)
  • 3 cloves Garlic (Fresh is best, but powder can be used)
  • 1 tbsp Ginger (Ground ginger can be used as a substitute)
  • 2 Green Onions (Can substitute with chives)
  • 1 tbsp Sugar (Can be omitted or replaced with honey)
  • 1 tsp Red Pepper Flakes (Adjust to taste)

Assembly & Garnish

  • 1 pkg Dumpling Wrappers (Can use egg roll wrappers for larger dumplings)
  • 2 tbsp Chili Oil (Can be replaced with sriracha or omitted)
  • Sesame Seeds (Optional for texture)
  • Microgreens (Optional, enhances presentation)

Instructions

  1. Preparation: Gather all ingredients and equipment. Finely mince the garlic and grate the fresh ginger if using fresh. Chop the green onions finely to prepare the filling components.
  2. Make the Filling: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, chopped green onions, sugar, and red pepper flakes. Use your hands or a spoon to mix thoroughly, ensuring all ingredients are well incorporated and the mixture is uniform.
  3. Assemble Dumplings: Take one dumpling wrapper and place about 1 tablespoon of the beef filling in the center. Lightly wet the edges of the wrapper with water to help seal. Fold the wrapper over the filling into a half-moon shape, then pinch the edges tightly to secure, making sure there are no gaps or openings.
  4. Steaming Option: Prepare a steamer by lining it with cabbage leaves to prevent sticking. Arrange the dumplings inside, making sure they don’t touch, and steam for 10 to 12 minutes until the beef is fully cooked through and the wrappers are tender but intact.
  5. Baking Option: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the dumplings lightly with oil to promote crispiness. Arrange them on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes until the wrappers turn golden brown and crispy.
  6. Serve and Garnish: Drizzle the dumplings with chili oil or sriracha for extra heat if desired. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top for texture and garnish with fresh microgreens to enhance presentation and add a fresh bite.

Notes

  • For a healthier alternative, substitute ground beef with ground turkey or lentils.
  • Use low-sodium soy sauce to reduce salt content without sacrificing flavor.
  • If you prefer less spice, reduce or omit red pepper flakes and chili oil.
  • Dumpling wrappers can be replaced with egg roll wrappers for larger rolls with a crispier texture when baked.
  • Ensure dumplings are sealed tightly to prevent filling leakage during cooking.
  • Store leftover cooked dumplings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days; reheat by steaming or baking.
