- ½ cup cold unsalted butter (cut into cubes)
- ⅔ cup whole milk

- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare the strawberries: Toss sliced strawberries with sugar and set aside to macerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Make the shortcakes: Preheat oven. Whisk together dry ingredients, cut in butter, add wet ingredients, form dough, cut into rounds, and bake.
- Whip the cream: Beat cream, sugar, and vanilla until soft peaks form.
- Assemble: Slice shortcakes, top with strawberries and cream, and finish with more cream and strawberries.

- For extra flavor, add lemon zest to the shortcake dough.
