Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 12 pieces Cherry Tomatoes (fresh, ripe; grape tomatoes can be substituted)
- 12 leaves Fresh Basil Leaves (vibrant and aromatic)
- 12 pieces Small Mozzarella Balls (Bocconcini; whole milk mozzarella preferred)
- 2 tablespoons Balsamic Glaze (sweet and tangy)
- 2 tablespoons Olive Oil (extra virgin, high-quality)
- 1 teaspoon Salt (preferably fine sea salt)
- 1 teaspoon Black Pepper (freshly cracked)
- 12 pieces Toothpicks or Small Skewers (for assembly and serving)
Instructions
- Prepare Tomatoes: Wash and dry cherry tomatoes thoroughly. For enhanced flavor, slice them in half, coat with olive oil, and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Roast at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes until tender and slightly caramelized.
- Prepare Mozzarella: Drain mozzarella balls well and gently pat dry. If some balls are larger, cut them in half to ensure all pieces are uniform in size for easy layering.
- Assemble Bites: Thread one cherry tomato (whole or half), a fresh basil leaf, and one mozzarella ball onto each toothpick or small skewer. Repeat the layers to fill the skewer attractively.
- Arrange and Season: Lay the assembled bites on a serving platter. Drizzle evenly with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze. Lightly sprinkle with additional salt and freshly cracked black pepper to enhance the flavors.
- Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the Caprese bites for 10-15 minutes to allow flavors to meld. Serve chilled or at room temperature, perfect for parties and casual entertaining.
Notes
- You can skip roasting the tomatoes for a fresher, lighter bite.
- Use grape tomatoes if cherry tomatoes are not available; they provide similar sweetness and size.
- Substitute balsamic glaze with a reduction of balsamic vinegar if you want a homemade touch.
- For a vegan version, replace mozzarella with vegan cheese alternatives.
- Make ahead and refrigerate the bites, but assemble just before serving to keep basil fresh.
