- Preheat broiler: When ready to serve, preheat your oven’s broiler to high.
- Assemble soup bowls: Ladle the hot soup into oven-safe bowls, place a slice of baguette on top of each, and generously sprinkle with shredded cheese.
- Broil: Place the bowls under the broiler for 2–3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and slightly browned.
- Serve: Carefully remove from oven and serve the French Onion Soup hot and enjoy the rich, savory flavors.
Notes
- You can substitute vegan butter for olive oil to keep the recipe vegan.
- Adjust sugar to help with caramelization depending on onion sweetness.
- The white wine is optional but adds depth; substitute with more broth if preferred.
- Use oven-safe bowls for broiling the soup with cheese topping.
- If you want a gluten-free version, use gluten-free bread for the topping.
