Description

This Baked Taco Dip is a flavorful and crowd-pleasing appetizer perfect for parties or casual gatherings. Ground beef seasoned with taco spices is layered over a creamy mix of cream cheese, sour cream, and salsa, then topped with melted Mexican blend cheese and fresh toppings. Serve warm with tortilla chips for a deliciously cheesy and savory dip that’s easy to make and sure to impress.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat Layer

  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1/2 cup water

Cream Cheese Layer

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup salsa

Cheese and Toppings

  • 2 cups shredded Mexican blend cheese, divided
  • 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • 2 green onions, sliced

For Serving

  • Tortilla chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it reaches the right temperature by the time your dip is ready to bake.
  2. Cook the meat: In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or turkey thoroughly. Once cooked, drain any excess fat. Stir in the taco seasoning packet and water, then cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the meat is well coated and the sauce thickens slightly.
  3. Prepare the cream cheese mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and salsa. Mix well until smooth and evenly blended to create a creamy base for the dip.
  4. Assemble the dip: Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Layer the cooked seasoned meat evenly over the cream cheese mixture.
  5. Add cheese layer: Sprinkle 1 1/2 cups of the shredded Mexican blend cheese evenly over the meat layer.
  6. Bake: Place the assembled dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and starting to brown slightly.
  7. Garnish and serve: Remove the dish from the oven and top with the chopped tomatoes, sliced black olives, green onions, and the remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheese. Serve warm with tortilla chips for dipping.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey for a leaner option.
  • For extra heat, add chopped jalapeños to the topping.
  • Use reduced-fat cheese and sour cream for a lighter version.
  • Make sure to soften the cream cheese beforehand for easier mixing.
  • Tortilla chips work best when thick enough to scoop the dip without breaking.
