Ingredients
Scale
Rice and Broth
- 1 cup Jasmine Rice
- 2 cups Chicken Broth
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
For Cooking
- 2 tablespoons Olive Oil
- 2 tablespoons Butter
For Garnish and Flavor
- 2 tablespoons Green Onions, chopped
- 1 tablespoon Sesame Oil
Instructions
- Rinse the Rice: Rinse the jasmine rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch, which helps achieve fluffy, separate grains after cooking.
- Heat Oil and Toast Rice: In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the rinsed rice and stir constantly for about 2 minutes until the grains become slightly translucent, gently toasting the rice to develop flavor.
- Add Broth and Seasoning: Gradually pour in the chicken broth, then add salt and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil, ensuring the rice is evenly submerged.
- Simmer the Rice: Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let the rice simmer gently for 18 minutes, allowing it to absorb the broth and cook through.
- Create Crispy Bottom: After the rice is cooked, add butter to the pan and increase the heat to medium-high. Cook the rice uncovered until the bottom layer forms a beautiful golden, crispy crust, approximately 5–7 minutes. Avoid stirring to maintain the crust.
- Finish and Garnish: Remove the rice from heat, garnish with freshly chopped green onions, and drizzle the sesame oil over the top. Let the rice rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow flavors to meld.
Notes
- Use jasmine rice for the best aromatic flavor and texture.
- Adjust salt and pepper according to taste preferences.
- Ensure the saucepan is heavy-bottomed to prevent burning while crisping the rice.
- Do not stir the rice during the crisping step to achieve a uniform crust.
- Serve as a flavorful side to grilled meats, seafood, or vegetables.
