Ingredients
Scale
Oatmeal Base
- 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1/3 cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
Topping
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans
- 3 tablespoons cold butter, cubed
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare the baking dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease an 8×8-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the rolled oats, baking powder, ground cinnamon, and salt. Stir these dry ingredients to evenly distribute them.
- Mix wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and melted butter until smooth and thoroughly combined.
- Combine wet and dry mixtures: Pour the wet ingredient mixture into the bowl with the dry oat mixture and stir gently until all components are evenly mixed.
- Transfer to baking dish: Pour the combined oatmeal batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Prepare the topping: In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, all-purpose flour, chopped pecans, and cubed cold butter. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to blend until the mixture forms crumbly topping pieces.
- Add the topping: Sprinkle the crumbly topping evenly over the oatmeal batter in the baking dish.
- Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
- Cool and serve: Allow the baked oatmeal to cool slightly before slicing and serving. Enjoy warm, optionally with yogurt or an extra drizzle of maple syrup.
Notes
- For extra flavor and texture, add raisins or diced apples into the oatmeal mixture before baking.
- Walnuts can be used as a substitute for pecans in the topping.
- Serve warm with yogurt or an additional drizzle of maple syrup for enhanced sweetness.
