Ingredients
Scale
Sandwich Filling
- 8 oz cream cheese
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, chopped
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Sandwich Assembly
- 8 slices of bread
Breading and Frying
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola oil recommended)
Instructions
- Prepare the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, powdered sugar, chopped strawberries, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
- Assemble sandwiches: Spread the strawberry cream cheese mixture evenly onto 4 slices of bread. Then, place the remaining 4 slices on top to form sandwiches.
- Mix egg wash: In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and milk thoroughly to create an egg wash.
- Coat sandwiches: Dip each sandwich into the egg wash, ensuring both sides are fully coated, then press each side into the breadcrumbs to cover them evenly.
- Heat oil: Pour enough oil into a frying pan to cover the bottom about 1/4 inch deep. Heat the oil over medium heat until shimmering but not smoking.
- Fry sandwiches: Carefully place each sandwich in the hot oil. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Drain and serve: Remove the sandwiches from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve warm for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- Use day-old bread for better frying texture, as fresh bread may become too soggy.
- Ensure oil temperature is medium heat to avoid burning the breadcrumbs before the filling warms through.
- Serve immediately for the best flavor and crunch.
- Can be dusted with additional powdered sugar or served with whipped cream for extra indulgence.
