Description

These Heavenly Baked Chicken Alfredo Calzones are a delicious twist on classic Italian comfort food. Filled with tender shredded chicken, creamy Alfredo sauce, and a blend of mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses, all wrapped in a golden, crispy pizza dough crust, they make for a perfect main course that’s both satisfying and easy to prepare. Ideal for family dinners or casual gatherings, these calzones deliver rich flavors with every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Calzone Dough

  • 1 pound pizza dough

Filling

  • 2 cups cooked chicken breast, shredded
  • 1 cup Alfredo sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Additional

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare baking sheet: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Roll out dough: Divide the pizza dough into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into an 8-inch diameter circle on a lightly floured surface.
  3. Mix filling: In a large bowl, combine shredded chicken, Alfredo sauce, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and black pepper. Stir well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  4. Assemble calzones: Spoon the chicken Alfredo mixture onto one half of each dough circle, leaving about a 1/2-inch border around the edges to allow for sealing.
  5. Seal calzones: Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Crimp the edges tightly with a fork to seal the calzones and prevent the filling from leaking during baking.
  6. Add finishing touches: Brush the tops of each calzone with beaten egg for a glossy finish. Cut small slits on top of each calzone to allow steam to escape while baking.
  7. Bake calzones: Place the calzones on the prepared baking sheet and lightly brush the tops with olive oil. Bake in the preheated oven for 18 to 22 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is heated through.
  8. Garnish and serve: Remove calzones from the oven and let cool slightly. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm with optional dipping sauces like Alfredo or marinara.

Notes

  • Use rotisserie chicken to save time and add extra flavor.
  • Add sautéed spinach or mushrooms to the filling for more texture and nutrition.
  • Serve with extra Alfredo or marinara sauce for dipping to enhance taste.
