Ingredients
Scale
Meatballs
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 pound ground pork
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Sauce and Assembly
- 3 cups marinara sauce
- 4 hoagie rolls
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F to prepare for toasting the rolls and melting the cheese later.
- Mix Meatball Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined to keep the meatballs tender.
- Form Meatballs: Shape the mixture into 16 evenly sized meatballs for uniform cooking.
- Brown Meatballs: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides, about 6 to 8 minutes, creating a flavorful crust.
- Simmer in Sauce: Pour marinara sauce into the skillet with meatballs and simmer gently for 15 minutes until the meatballs are cooked through and tender.
- Toast Rolls: Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise and lightly spread softened butter on the cut sides. Place rolls on a baking sheet and toast in the preheated oven for 3 to 4 minutes until golden and crisp.
- Assemble Subs: Fill each toasted hoagie roll with meatballs and plenty of sauce from the skillet.
- Add Cheese and Bake: Top the meatballs in each sandwich with shredded mozzarella cheese. Return the assembled subs to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and serve the meatball subs warm for a comforting and satisfying meal.
Notes
- For a quicker meal, use store-bought meatballs instead of making your own.
- Add sautéed peppers and onions inside the subs for extra flavor and texture.
- Provolone cheese can be used as a delicious alternative to mozzarella.
