Description

Peach Lemonade is the ultimate refreshing summer drink that combines sweet, ripe peaches with tangy freshly squeezed lemon juice for a perfectly balanced homemade beverage. This recipe features a simmered peach syrup that enhances the natural fruit flavor, mixed with cold water and ice to create a cool and revitalizing drink perfect for hot days.

Ingredients

Scale

Peach Syrup

  • 6 ripe peaches, pitted and roughly chopped
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, plus more to taste
  • 1 cup water

Lemonade

  • 1 1/2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice (from about 8-10 lemons)
  • 6 cups cold water, plus more to adjust to taste
  • Ice cubes, for serving

Garnishes (optional)

  • Lemon slices
  • Peach slices
  • Fresh mint sprigs

Instructions

  1. Combine peaches, sugar, and water: In a medium saucepan, combine the chopped peaches, 1 cup granulated sugar, and 1 cup water.
  2. Bring to a simmer: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally to help the sugar dissolve and prevent sticking.
  3. Simmer and mash: Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes until peaches are very soft. Gently mash them with a potato masher or back of a spoon to extract flavor.
  4. Strain the syrup: Pour the peach mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a heat-proof bowl, pressing solids to extract maximum syrup. Discard or save the peach pulp for other uses.
  5. Cool the syrup: Allow the peach syrup to cool completely before using; place in an ice bath to speed cooling.
  6. Combine lemon juice and water: In a large pitcher, mix freshly squeezed lemon juice with 6 cups cold water and stir well.
  7. Add the peach syrup: Pour the cooled peach syrup into the lemon water mixture and stir to combine.
  8. Taste and adjust: Taste the lemonade and adjust sweetness or tartness by adding sugar in tablespoons if too tart, or more lemon juice if too sweet. Add extra water for a lighter flavor if desired.
  9. Chill the lemonade: Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to meld flavors and serve chilled.
  10. Fill glasses with ice: Fill glasses about three-quarters full with ice cubes.
  11. Pour the lemonade: Pour the chilled peach lemonade over the ice in each glass.
  12. Garnish (optional): Add lemon slices, peach slices, and fresh mint sprigs for visual appeal and enhanced aroma.
  13. Serve immediately: Serve the refreshing peach lemonade right away and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can save the leftover peach pulp to add to oatmeal, yogurt, or smoothies for extra flavor and nutrition.
  • Adjust sweetness carefully as everyone’s taste preference varies; add sugar or lemon juice gradually.
  • For an extra chilled drink, refrigerate the syrup before mixing with lemon juice and cold water.
  • Use ripe, fragrant peaches for the best flavor outcome.
  • The lemonade can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 2 days, but best served fresh.
