Ingredients
Scale
Wet Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
- 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Dry Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Add-ins
- 1 cup chocolate chunks
- 3/4 cup toffee bits
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×9-inch baking pan with parchment paper to prevent sticking and allow easy removal of the bars.
- Cream wet ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, creamy peanut butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until the mixture is smooth and fluffy, which helps create a tender texture.
- Add egg and vanilla: Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined, ensuring the batter is uniform and ready for the dry ingredients.
- Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt, to evenly distribute the leavening and seasoning.
- Mix dry into wet: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined to avoid overmixing which could toughen the bars.
- Fold in add-ins: Gently fold the chocolate chunks and toffee bits into the batter, distributing them evenly throughout for bursts of flavor in each bite.
- Press and bake: Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the edges turn golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool and slice: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before lifting them out using the parchment and slicing into 12 squares for serving.
Notes
- For extra richness and visual appeal, sprinkle a few additional chocolate chunks on top before baking.
- Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days to maintain freshness.
- Use crunchy peanut butter instead of creamy if you prefer added texture in the bars.
