These P.F. Chang’s Chicken Lettuce Wraps are a delicious, light, and flavorful appetizer or meal featuring seasoned ground chicken served in crisp butter lettuce leaves. The chicken is cooked with a savory blend of garlic, ginger, soy, hoisin, and Sriracha for a perfect balance of sweet and spicy, mixed with crunchy water chestnuts and fresh green onions. This quick and easy recipe is perfect for a healthy lunch or dinner that’s full of texture and bold Asian-inspired flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken Filling

  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small white onion, diced
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Sriracha
  • 1 can (8 ounces) sliced water chestnuts, drained
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

For Serving

  • 1 to 2 heads of butter lettuce
  • Shredded carrots (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the chicken: Heat olive oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground chicken and cook, crumbling the meat with a spatula, until fully browned. Drain any excess fat from the pan.
  2. Add aromatics and sauces: Stir in the minced garlic, diced onion, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, grated ginger, and Sriracha. Continue cooking and stirring until the onions become translucent, about 1 to 2 minutes.
  3. Incorporate water chestnuts and green onions: Add the drained sliced water chestnuts and thinly sliced green onions to the skillet. Cook for another 1 to 2 minutes until the mixture is heated through and tender. Season with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  4. Assemble the wraps: Spoon several tablespoons of the warm chicken mixture into the center of a butter lettuce leaf. Top with shredded carrots if desired for added crunch and color.
  5. Serve: Serve immediately while warm, allowing guests to enjoy the crisp lettuce paired with the flavorful chicken filling.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey or tofu for ground chicken to make a different variation.
  • If you prefer a spicier wrap, increase the amount of Sriracha or add chili flakes.
  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free soy sauce and hoisin sauce.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated separately from the lettuce wraps and reheated in a skillet or microwave.
  • Add chopped peanuts or sesame seeds on top for an extra crunch.
