Ingredients
Scale
For the Chicken Filling
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small white onion, diced
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon Sriracha
- 1 can (8 ounces) sliced water chestnuts, drained
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
For Serving
- 1 to 2 heads of butter lettuce
- Shredded carrots (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the chicken: Heat olive oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground chicken and cook, crumbling the meat with a spatula, until fully browned. Drain any excess fat from the pan.
- Add aromatics and sauces: Stir in the minced garlic, diced onion, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, grated ginger, and Sriracha. Continue cooking and stirring until the onions become translucent, about 1 to 2 minutes.
- Incorporate water chestnuts and green onions: Add the drained sliced water chestnuts and thinly sliced green onions to the skillet. Cook for another 1 to 2 minutes until the mixture is heated through and tender. Season with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
- Assemble the wraps: Spoon several tablespoons of the warm chicken mixture into the center of a butter lettuce leaf. Top with shredded carrots if desired for added crunch and color.
- Serve: Serve immediately while warm, allowing guests to enjoy the crisp lettuce paired with the flavorful chicken filling.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey or tofu for ground chicken to make a different variation.
- If you prefer a spicier wrap, increase the amount of Sriracha or add chili flakes.
- For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free soy sauce and hoisin sauce.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated separately from the lettuce wraps and reheated in a skillet or microwave.
- Add chopped peanuts or sesame seeds on top for an extra crunch.
