Ingredients
Scale
Tofu
- 14 oz firm tofu, cubed
Vegetables
- 2 cups mixed vegetables (bell peppers, broccoli, carrots)
Sauce and Seasonings
- 3 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
Instructions
- Press the tofu: Remove excess moisture by pressing the tofu using a tofu press or wrapping it in a clean towel and placing a heavy object on top for 10-15 minutes. This helps the tofu crisp better when cooked.
- Heat oil and sauté aromatics: In a pan over medium heat, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and ginger and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant to infuse the oil with flavor.
- Cook tofu until golden: Add the cubed firm tofu to the pan. Cook the tofu for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until all sides are golden brown and crispy.
- Add vegetables and stir-fry: Add the mixed vegetables including bell peppers, broccoli, and carrots to the pan. Stir-fry together with tofu for 5 minutes until vegetables are tender yet crisp.
- Combine with teriyaki sauce: Pour in 3 tablespoons of teriyaki sauce over the tofu and vegetables. Mix well to coat everything evenly.
- Simmer briefly: Cook the mixture for another 2 minutes on medium heat to allow the sauce to thicken slightly and flavors to meld.
- Garnish and serve: Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds on top as garnish. Serve the teriyaki tofu stir-fry hot, ideally over steamed rice or noodles.
Notes
- Pressing tofu before cooking removes excess moisture, ensuring it crisps up nicely.
- You can substitute mixed vegetables with any preferred stir-fry veggies like snap peas or mushrooms.
- Adjust the amount of teriyaki sauce according to desired flavor intensity.
- For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free teriyaki sauce.
- This recipe is vegetarian and can be made vegan by ensuring the teriyaki sauce contains no animal products.
