Ingredients
Scale
Sandwich
- 1 large Italian sub roll or ciabatta bread
- 4 slices salami
- 4 slices pepperoni
- 4 slices ham or capicola
- 4 slices provolone or mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 4 slices tomato
- 2 tbsp red onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp banana peppers (optional)
Dressing & Spread
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tbsp mayonnaise or Dijon mustard (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s hot and ready for toasting the sandwich.
- Slice Bread: Cut the Italian sub roll or ciabatta bread horizontally to create two sandwich halves.
- Layer Meats and Cheese: On the bottom half of the bread, layer the salami, pepperoni, ham (or capicola), and slices of provolone or mozzarella cheese evenly.
- Add Vegetables: Top the meats and cheese with shredded lettuce, sliced tomato, thinly sliced red onion, and optional banana peppers for a fresh crunch and tang.
- Drizzle Dressing: Drizzle the olive oil and red wine vinegar over the stacked ingredients, then sprinkle with Italian seasoning to enhance the flavors.
- Spread Sauce: Optionally spread mayonnaise or Dijon mustard on the top half of the bread to add creaminess and tang.
- Assemble Sandwich: Place the sandwich halves together carefully so the fillings stay in place, then wrap the entire sandwich tightly in aluminum foil.
- Toast Sandwich: Place the wrapped sandwich in the preheated oven and toast for 5-7 minutes until the bread is crispy and the cheese has melted beautifully.
- Serve: Remove the sandwich from the oven, unwrap, slice to desired portions, and serve warm for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- Using foil while toasting helps keep the sandwich moist and melts the cheese evenly.
- For vegetarian variation, omit the meats and add extra cheese and vegetables.
- Banana peppers add a tangy, spicy kick but can be omitted if preferred.
- Adjust toasting time based on your oven for perfect crispiness without burning.
- This sandwich is best enjoyed immediately while warm and gooey.
