Ingredients
Scale
Brownie Layer
- 1 batch of brownie mix (or homemade brownies, enough to fill an 8×8 inch pan)
Pudding Layer
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 package instant chocolate pudding mix (about 3.9 oz)
- Optional: 1/2 tsp mint extract
Topping
- 2 cups whipped topping (such as Cool Whip)
- Green sprinkles, to garnish
- 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, to garnish
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8 inch baking pan thoroughly to prevent sticking.
- Bake Brownies: Prepare the brownie mix according to the package instructions or your homemade recipe. Pour the batter into the greased pan and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Once baked, allow the brownies to cool completely to room temperature.
- Make Chocolate Pudding: In a medium bowl, whisk together 2 cups of whole milk and the instant chocolate pudding mix vigorously for about 2 minutes until the mixture thickens. If desired, stir in 1/2 teaspoon of mint extract for a refreshing flavor variation. Set aside.
- Cut Brownies: Once cooled, cut the brownies into squares suitable for layering in your serving bowl.
- Layer the Trifle: In a trifle bowl or large glass serving dish, start by placing half of the brownie squares as the first layer. Spoon half of the prepared chocolate pudding evenly over the brownies. Follow with half of the whipped topping spread evenly over the pudding.
- Repeat Layers and Garnish: Repeat the layering process with the remaining brownie squares, pudding, and whipped topping. Finish the top layer by sprinkling green sprinkles and semi-sweet chocolate chips evenly to decorate.
- Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the completed trifle for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the layers to set before serving.
Notes
- For a more intense chocolate flavor, use homemade brownies made from your favorite recipe.
- Mint extract is optional but adds a delicious, festive twist to the pudding layer.
- Ensure the brownies have fully cooled before layering to prevent melting the whipped topping.
- This dessert can be prepared up to a day in advance and kept covered in the refrigerator.
- Use a clear glass dish to showcase the beautiful layers of the trifle.
