Description

Steamed Mushroom Dumplings are a delicious and healthy homemade treat featuring a savory blend of mushrooms, cabbage, garlic, and ginger wrapped in tender dumpling wrappers. These dumplings are steamed to perfection, resulting in a flavorful, juicy filling encased in translucent, soft dough. Perfect for a vegetarian appetizer or snack, they are easy to prepare and can be enjoyed with soy sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

Dumpling Wrappers

  • 1 pack Dumpling Wrappers (homemade or store-bought)

Filling

  • 5 cups Mushrooms (any mix like shiitake and cremini), finely chopped
  • 3 leaves Napa Cabbage (or other cabbage), finely chopped
  • 2-3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 inches Ginger, minced
  • 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce (reduced-sodium or gluten-free if needed)
  • 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil (can substitute with another oil)
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper (adjust to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling: Finely chop the cabbage, mushrooms, ginger, and garlic, or pulse in a food processor until finely minced to create the dumpling filling.
  2. Sauté the Vegetables: Heat a dry pan over medium heat and add the chopped mushrooms. Cook for about 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly until the mushrooms release their moisture and it evaporates. Add the chopped cabbage, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, and black pepper. Continue cooking for another 4-5 minutes until the mixture is tender. Remove from heat and allow the filling to cool completely.
  3. Assemble the Dumplings: Take a dumpling wrapper and place about 1 tablespoon of the cooled filling in the center. Fold the wrapper over the filling and seal the edges by pinching and pleating to create your preferred dumpling shape, ensuring the filling is fully enclosed.
  4. Steam the Dumplings: Arrange the prepared dumplings in a lined bamboo steamer or metal colander. Place the steamer over boiling water and steam for 6-8 minutes until the wrappers are translucent and tender, and the filling is cooked through.

Notes

  • You can substitute napa cabbage with regular green cabbage if unavailable.
  • For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free dumpling wrappers and soy sauce.
  • The filling can be altered with additional seasonings like green onions or chili flakes for extra flavor.
  • These dumplings can be refrigerated for up to 24 hours before steaming or frozen for longer storage.
  • To make potstickers, fry dumplings until golden on the bottom, then add water and cover to steam for 5 minutes.
