Description

This Sweet Potato Pecan Tart is a delightful dessert combining creamy mashed sweet potatoes with warm spices and a crunchy toasted pecan topping, all nestled in a buttery pre-made pie crust. Perfect for fall and holiday celebrations, it offers a rich, sweet flavor with a satisfying texture that will impress your guests.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 2 medium sweet potatoes (about 500 grams)
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar (about 150 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (about 60 grams)
  • 2 large eggs

Topping

  • 1 cup pecans, toasted and roughly chopped (about 120 grams)

Crust

  • 1 (9-inch) pre-made pie crust (about 230 grams)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust: Place the pre-made pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and crimp the edges to fit snugly.
  2. Bake the sweet potatoes: Bake the sweet potatoes whole until tender, then peel and mash them in a large mixing bowl until smooth and creamy.
  3. Mix the filling: Add brown sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, vanilla extract, melted butter, and eggs to the mashed sweet potatoes. Mix thoroughly until the filling is smooth and creamy.
  4. Prepare pecan topping: Toast the pecans until fragrant, then roughly chop them and set aside.
  5. Assemble the tart: Pour the sweet potato filling into the prepared pie crust, smoothing the top evenly with a spatula.
  6. Add pecan topping: Sprinkle the chopped toasted pecans evenly over the filling and gently press them down so they adhere well.
  7. Bake the tart: Bake the assembled tart in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 45-50 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is golden brown.
  8. Cool and serve: Remove the tart from the oven and let it cool at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving to allow the filling to firm up.

Notes

  • You can bake sweet potatoes wrapped in foil at 400°F for about 45 minutes if in a hurry.
  • Be sure not to underbake the tart; the filling should be firm to the touch after baking.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of salt to the filling mixture.
  • Use fresh spices for best flavor.
  • Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for an indulgent dessert.
