Description

The Zombie cocktail is a classic tropical drink that combines light and dark rum with apricot brandy, fresh orange and pineapple juices, and a splash of grenadine for a vibrant and flavorful experience. Perfectly shaken and served over ice, this cocktail is a refreshing treat with a balanced fruity and boozy profile.

Ingredients

Alcoholic Ingredients

  • Light rum: 1 oz (30 ml)
  • Dark rum: 1 oz (30 ml)
  • Apricot brandy: 1 oz (30 ml)

Juices

  • Orange juice: 2 oz (60 ml)
  • Pineapple juice: 2 oz (60 ml)

Other Ingredients

  • Grenadine: 1/2 oz (15 ml)
  • Bitters: a splash
  • Ice: as needed

Instructions

  1. Gather Ingredients: Collect all the ingredients required for the cocktail including light rum, dark rum, apricot brandy, orange juice, pineapple juice, grenadine, bitters, and ice.
  2. Mix Base Spirits: Pour the light rum, dark rum, and apricot brandy into a cocktail shaker to combine the core alcoholic flavors of the cocktail.
  3. Add Fruit Juices: Add the fresh orange juice and pineapple juice to the shaker to balance the strong spirits with sweet and tangy fruit flavors.
  4. Shake and Chill: Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted to enhance the flavors and texture.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Strain the shaken mixture into a glass filled with fresh ice. Slowly pour the grenadine down the side of the glass to create a layered effect and add a splash of bitters to finish. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh fruit juices rather than bottled juices.
  • Adjust the amount of grenadine for desired sweetness and color intensity.
  • If you prefer a less strong cocktail, reduce the amount of rum or add more juice.
  • The bitters add depth—do not skip, but use sparingly according to taste.
  • This recipe makes one serving, but can be multiplied for larger groups.
